A couple found themselves on their own in the middle of a foreign country. They met a man who exuded power and self-confidence. He could help them through any kind of circumstance, all they needed to do was ask for him.

A while later, they did need help, their passports and plane tickets were stolen. They went to this powerful man for help. This man knew what they needed before they even asked, but he waited for them to ask.

When this powerful man asked them if they had any clues, they said they had looked and found clues everywhere: the front door had been jimmied with a crowbar, papers were thrown everywhere, and there was a patch from a man’s jacket on the floor.

Upon seeing the patch, the man said, “Voila! I know who did this! Let’s go!” He led them up one street and down another; dogs were barking, women were calling out to neighbors across the alleys, and street vendors were selling pungent fish and vegetables.

They turned into one apartment complex and found a door at the end of a row of entrances. They went down the stairs into a dimly lit hallway. The powerful man said, “Knock on this door and you will find your papers.”

They knocked. A big man, but not as big as the powerful man, opened the door. At the sight of the powerful man, the other man knew what he wanted. He reached to a table behind the door and begrudgingly handed the passports and tickets to the couple.

Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7 ESV)

We ask God for things, and He knows what we need before we even ask. Jesus said, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11 ESV)

Seek God’s direction to make decisions and look for answers to your questions, and you will find all of this. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5 ESV)

Knock, and the door will be opened. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 ESV) Come to Jesus, and the door will be opened to eternal happiness and peace through a relationship with the Father.

Was raised in the Mennonite community. She can trace her roots way back to the 1700’s in Prussia. Marilynn, as a history buff, has always been curious about the trip her ancestors took from Prussia to Southern Russia (Ukraine) and what they could have encountered between the two points. Marilynn has done an incredible amount of research to discover the political and social climate of the day and is attempting to put it in fiction story form for other readers to enjoy.

Marilynn invites you to join her on this journey of discovery.
