Even though the traditional Christmas is past, God is still sending messages to us today to invite us to come and worship Jesus as His Son and to tell others about the great miracle that happened at Christmas.
What do you do when you get the announcement that a baby has been born? You want to go see the baby and offer congratulations to the mother and father. It was no different with this announcement of a special baby being born, this Messiah, Christ the Lord. The announcement came from angels and from a star, but they knew it was a special baby that would change life as they knew it up to that date.
21. The baby – Luke 2:6-7
Mary and Joseph had just gotten settled in the stable offered by the innkeeper. Joseph had made a special bed for Mary upon the hay and she was getting comfortable, when, suddenly, it was time! It was time! Jesus came at just the right time, just like the angels announced to the shepherds.
22. The Manger – Luke 2:7
Mary gave birth to her first-born baby, a son, right there in the stable. She wrapped him snuggly in swaddling cloths and looked around where to lay him. Joseph had made a bed for him by laying fresh hay in the manger, the feeding trough for the animals. Perfect size and shape for a baby. Mary laid him in the best place cradle a baby could want, a soft bed in the manger. The animals looked on and murmured a sweet lullaby at this awesome spectacle.
23. The Nativity – Luke 2:15-20; Isaiah 9:6
The shepherds came running to the stable looking for the baby lying in a manger. They walked in and could smell the sweet aroma of fresh-cut hay, they heard the animals lowing their soft, soothing lullaby, they saw the aura glow of their savior laying in the manger. They remembered what the prophet Isaiah wrote so long ago, “He shall be called ‘Wonderful Counselor, almighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace.’” They bowed down and worshipped the little baby boy, Jesus. As they left the stable they said, “Let’s tell everyone the good news! Jesus, our Savior has been born tonight!”
24. The Gifts – Matthew 2:9-11
It took the Wise Men longer to arrive than the shepherds. They had to come from the East. After they got directions from the religious leaders in Jerusalem, they followed the star they had been following from the East which led them directly to the house where the young child Jesus was with his mother. They fell on their knees and worshipped him as Savior and King.
O come let us adore him, Christ, the Lord!
